The Prison Museum, the Rain-Proof King

The Museo Marítimo y del Presidio sits at Yaganes y Gobernador Deloqui, by the port, in the old prison building. It opens daily 10:00-20:00 with entry until 19:30. In 2026 the adult ticket is ARS 44,000 ($29.20), the family ticket for two adults and three minors is ARS 110,000 ($72.90) and students with ID up to 24 pay ARS 34,000 ($22.60).

One ticket covers the maritime museum, the prison museum, the Antarctic museum, the marine art museum, the gallery and the Faro del Fin del Mundo replica. Entry is valid two days, so if the rain cuts your visit short you can come back the next morning at no extra cost. A Spanish guided tour runs daily at 11:30.

The Provincial Museum on Maipú

The Museo del Fin del Mundo sits at Maipú 173, with an annex in the former Government House at Maipú 465. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:00-19:00 and Saturday 13:00-19:00. Sundays and holidays are variable, the official pages ask you to check.

General admission is about ARS 9,000 ($5.97), and the provincial museum service reprices often, so treat that figure as a floor. Note the Sunday gap. If your rainy day is a Sunday, the prison museum is the only large museum guaranteed open.

Cafes and Chocolate on San Martín

Avenida San Martín runs the length of the town centre two blocks up from the port, and it carries most of the city's cafes, chocolate shops and covered arcades. No official city page publishes opening hours for individual venues, so that is not stated here, but in practice the cafe trade is a wet-weather trade and the street stays busy. Hot chocolate is the local institution, and our estimate is that most visitors will spend more time and money here than in either museum.

The landing tours carry the extra constraint of fixed access times at the colony, so a delayed sailing can lose the landing even if the boat runs. Park Tours Run in Light Rain

Tierra del Fuego National Park tours, whether the plain park circuit, the End of the World Train pairings or the lagoon treks, are land operations. Light rain does not cancel them. Much of the park circuit runs under lenga forest, which takes the worst out of a drizzle, and the train has covered carriages.

What suffers is visibility. In heavy rain the mountain views from Garibaldi Pass and the park lookouts disappear, and the trekking routes turn to mud. The park itself stays open, with daily hours of 8:00-21:00 in December to February, 8:00-20:00 in March, October and November, and 9:00-18:00 in April to September.

Entry is a daily pass at ARS 40,000 ($26.50) for foreign visitors. If your park day looks ruined and the views are the reason you booked it, moving it costs nothing if you are outside the 24-hour window, and the standard park and train tour listing allows free cancellation up to that deadline.

Most tour listings for Ushuaia on the booking platforms carry a 24-hour cancellation deadline. That number is the pivot of every wet-weather decision. More than 24 hours out, cancel free and rebook around the forecast.

Inside 24 hours, the listing terms decide, and a same-day weather cancellation by the operator is normally refunded even inside the window. The grey zone is a tour that runs but delivers nothing, a park circuit in cloud, a trek in rain. Operators are not obliged to refund that, and the platform pages do not promise it.

17:00, Chocolate

Late afternoon is the chocolate hour. San Martín's shops pour thick hot chocolate through the afternoon, and it is the cheapest warm-up in town. Venue hours are not stated on any official page, but the trade is established and the street is two blocks from everything on this route.

20:00, Dinner

Note that the prison museum closes at 20:00 with entry until 19:30, so dinner comes after the culture, not before. Restaurants along the port and San Martín serve into the evening, and in summer there is still daylight, about 17 hours around the December solstice, to walk home in. In winter the walk is in the dark, roughly 7.5 hours of daylight around the June solstice, so keep dinner close to the centre.
